MaineTransNet Training for Sexual Assault / Domestic Violence Advocates
In June of 2020, I started working with Maine Transgender Network (MaineTransNet) as a training consultant.
I worked with subject-matter experts to develop a blended online learning class geared towards helping sexual assault and domestic violence advocates gain transgender competency. MaineTransNet decided to develop this training based on community feedback and wanted to give advocates the tools to help them better serve transgender clients.
Each week, participants were expected to complete the prework of viewing materials and answering discussion questions before attending synchronous webinars.
After we initially launched the training in July of 2020, we decided to significantly revamp the training. We integrated more case studies into the training to gauge participants’ active learning. We also limited class size to a maximum of 25 to promote higher-quality discussion.
We use a combination of Google Sites, Google Forms, and Google Docs to share information with participants.
Sometimes, simple is best.
