GoReact Guide for Teaching Supervisors
As part of my contract Instructional Designer role with the University of Southern Maine’s Center for Technology Enhanced Learning, I designed a pilot program on instructing student teaching supervisors on how to use GoReact (video assessment software) to evaluate their interns in the classroom. Prior to the pandemic, supervisors had been able to assess their interns in-person, and thus needed a solution to observe remotely.
The pilot program involved a series of group and individual Zoom calls, as well as the development of a training manual and bite-sized instructional videos on certain aspects of GoReact. The pilot program also dealt with the University of Maine System’s transition to D2L’s Brightspace Learning Management System, new for the Fall 2020 semester.
There were lots of changes at once!
Though many were nervous at first, several supervisors have reported that USM’s implementation of GoReact has been a game-changer. They can rewind students’ videos and write meaningful comments specifically tied to a moment in time, which makes their feedback more effective. As a matter of fact, a few of my hesitant supervisors from the first pilot round actually co-taught the second pilot round with me, as they had developed confidence in using the tool and wanted to help others.
